That Dirty “B” Word…

March 12, 2014

It’s amazing to get up everyday, and do something I truly love, some days, in my red fuzzy penguin PJ pants, and mis match fuzzy socks. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have days where I hate my boss <insert snarky emoticon face here> because in reality, some days I do. I get wrapped up in the comparing game where I begin to look at other’s journey instead of my own, comparing their highlight real to my behind the scenes. I have days where I want to hibernate, out of pure exhaustion from the many roles I’ve taken on to pursue my dream…

Starting off 2014, I had one one word that I was going to say over and over and over to myself until I was blue in the face. A goal, that wasn’t a goal as much as it was a necessity from being a sole creative entrepreneur… that word,

BALANCE.

Balance is key to any successful business. Yes, I answer hundreds of emails a week, yes, I take photos, upload photos, edit, batch, print photos, design albums, write blog posts, handwrite thank you’s and care packages for my clients,  meet with clients, call clients, schedule ordering sessions, order photos from ordering sessions, book keep, talk to my accountant, go to workshops, continuing education, eat, sleep, rinse, repeat. I do all those things on a weekly basis, but do you know what else I’ve learned to do? I’ve learned to find balance, which is something that has never come natural for me. I’m  a “take it and run with it” girl. Where’s the next big adventure, I’m there.

So yes, I do…

-take as MANY vacations with my husband, travel the world, refresh my soul. (This makes me a better person, for everyone… Me without the big yellow sun in my life, is not a pretty thing, trust me.)

-take time daily in God’s Word to keep my goals, dreams and motives in check

-workout every morning, at a gym I love, and feel like family when I’m there

-take bubble baths at 2:00 in the afternoon while eating a fudgesicle (don’t judge)…

-Grocery shop at noon

-Make time for family and friends

-See my mom at least 3 times a week, even if that means she’s helping me address thank you cards, or make care packages

-Stop working at 5:00 (or close after), and the second my husband walks through the door

So while at times, we may think of the word, “balance” as a dirty word, there is really nothing more beautiful than discovering it, pursuing it, and living daily in it.

blessings, dayna
