It was shortly after their first date when I got a call from my best friend….

“Dayna, I think he may be the one.”

I laughed, until I realized she was serious.

Was she serious?

I still remember where I was, I was getting my hair done, and my stylist said I looked like I had seen a ghost… 🙂

A few weeks went by, and my heart began to soften to the fact that this very well could be God. I listened,   time continued to go by, and they were engaged.

Heather was planning her wedding… and asked if we could have it in our back yard. I was ecstatic at the thought, and had imagined this day with Heather for years. Heather told me the date she had in mind, and a sinking feeling hit my stomach. Through our friendship, I have learned to trust Heather’s heart. To not let a friend walk blindly, but to listen and really hear the reasoning behind the quickness. Everything had lined up, and just like that, we were planning a wedding, in OUR BACK YARD, in 5 weeks…  (I want to give the BIGGEST SHOUT OUT TO MY INCREDIBLE HUSBAND who helped me, and did absolutely EVERYTHING to help in creating their dream wedding in 5 short weeks!!!! )

The more I saw them together, and had a chance to get away for a weekend with Heather, the more I really began to see how crafted and beautiful the start of their journey was. They had both faced pain from their past, but it didn’t stop there. Before coming together, they had encountered a God who restores, redeems, and can reverse every tear that was ever cried! Their marriage will bring healing to many, and be a testimony of God’s grace to all the lives they touch.

During a hard break up 4 years ago, Heather stayed with Matt and I for a bit, and loved sleeping on our couch. In that time, our friendship blossomed and we became closer than anyone in my past. We would stay up, and talk for hours, eat ice cream, and just laugh- really laugh together. The night before her wedding she stayed at our house, and before bed we prayed together. She looked at me, and said “how amazing is it that I am sleeping on your couch the night before my wedding, the same couch I had slept on completely heart broken years ago…

.” I paused, goosies filled my entire body, and I teared up. THAT is just how AWESOME and FAITHFUL our God is!

We woke up, and that morning she was glowing, I made her her favorite Chai latte and started to do her hair. We talked about the day, everything leading up to that day, and how excited and at peace she was that she was marrying Brandon. All the details had come together, the boys were setting up, and the weather was perfect and sunny. Heather made her bouquet out of the book “captivating”. A book we hosted women’s Bible study together on, and where Heather began to root her heart around the promises’s of God. We made her bouquets that morning as we were getting our make up done. If you know Heather, you know she is OBSESSED with Star Wars. So, we had to add our flare of Darth and Yoda on the bouquets…

The day was wonderful, Heather, and Brandon, and his 2 girls looked toward the future together, and didn’t take their eyes off of each other. They decided on a twilight ceremony, which was beautiful, and allowed time before hand for photos, games, a family style BBQ, and to really embrace the magic of the day.

One last special shout out to my dear friend, Rachel Shomsky, who came to help last minute. If not for her, I may have been in a state of panic! She made sure I was in some photos, and second shot for me, and I am so grateful for her + her giving heart!! I can’t wait till her sister’s wedding one day where I can repay her and all her hard work!

Wishing my best friend, and new brother, a life FILLED with goodness, and all the richness that lies ahead of them in the future. They are a living example of God’s Grace, and restoration! I could have never asked for a better best friend, who knows me more intimately than Heather. And for a man that loves her, has her best interest at heart, and Brandon’s two little girls who Matt and I can’t stop talking about. 🙂
