It’s tuesday afternoon about an hour before our session, and the forecast is calling for high winds, and 70% chance of rain. I called Jacque to see if she wanted to reschedule knowing that they would be bringing their newest addition and heart throb, 7 day old Camdyn,  to their outdoor session. “well, the boys are all showered, so why don’t we try for today.” I heard the hesitation in her voice, but as a mommy who just had a c-section 7 days prior, I can only imagine what it’s like getting 3 boys ready, and her gorgeous self. Supermom moment number one for Jacque (she is honestly amazing!) So we did. We did, and with 3 boys under the age of 4, you can imagine that one of them would want a little more attention. Caleb, was so enthralled by our fruitsnacks and goldfish, that when he didn’t have his mouth full, all he could wrap his mind around was how to get more. Mom and dad’s patience was wearing thin, but they kept their smiles, as I assured them, this is how every family session goes at this age, “I got this” I told them as I giggled and chased Michael, my photo assistant, around the golf course, encouraging him to keep his rockstar attitude up. Just as Jacque and Mike thought this session must have been a fail, because Caleb was crying the whole time, I mentioned going in for snacks and water to warm up. I set up a chair near a window, and caught this moment….

This moment instantly brought me back to why I do what I do… It reminded me of a conversation I had with my good friend Daighna (Daighna Photography) earlier this week. That with so many amazing styled shoots posted and pinned on sites such as Pinterest, or any photography blog these days, sometimes we can get so wrapped up in the perfect props, or outfits, the lighting, or the scene, that we forget who and what we are photographing. This family, experienced an amazing change last week. They welcomed their 3rd beautiful boy into their family to make it complete. The scene of this moment was not planned, no one was smiling at me, the lighting wasn’t ideal, but- we made it work, and they made this moment incredible. As photographers, isn’t that our job, to capture it?
